It’s a crazy week of live music around the state of Minnesota this week, in part thanks to the State Fair kicking off on Thursday.
Touring acts include Umprey’s McGee, The Devon Allman Project, TOTO, comedian/rocker Dave Hill, Tame Impala, Alabama Shakes, Hannah Cohen, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Margo Price, Pond, Davey and the Midnights and Sierra Ferrell.
But there are also events listed in Duluth, Winona and Grand Rapids.
A few things I’ll mention are:
The Big Wu’s Mark Joseph and The American Soul, which play every day at Cafe Caribe at the Minnesota State Fair at 2:30 p.m. (except for 11 a.m. on the final day).
Steve Solkela, known as the Finnish bard of the Iron Range, who plays in Grand Rapids Wednesday, and at the Pryes Stage at the fair Saturday and Sunday. I got to know Solkela a little bit recently at MAI Fest on Orcas Island, and I’ll just say he’s half prince/half jester.
Duluth’s Cigarette Picnic plays a free show at Bent Paddle in Duluth Monday at 7 p.m.
Duluth’s Babie Eyes played with Wetland Willows and Entheos Enclave at Wussow’s in Duluth Saturday at 7 p.m.
Matcha Fever hits Bunkers Saturday at 9:30 p.m.
The High Summer Hangout block party at Two Fathoms in Winona is presented by Boats and Bluegrass and has a lineup including Saltydog, People Brothers Band, Mae Simpson, High & Rising and others Saturday.
There are also shows including The Black Atlantics, Shotgun Ragtime Band, Dr. Mambo’s Combo, Teague Alexy, L.A. Buckner, the Space Between Jam at The Hook and Ladder, Rory Van James, International Reggae All Stars, the Old Town Tuesday Night Jam at Whitey’s Old Town Saloon TWINE, the Cherry Pit Open Jam at Berlin, Cornbread Harris, Jaybee and the Routine, WE Collective, Rich Mattson and the Northstars, Even Flow, Brass Funkadelic, Real Numbers, Nur-D, China Rider, and The Brothers Burn Mountain.
