Members of The Khru (the band’s fan club) can register for limited ticket allotment through Monday, Oct. 13
Khruangbin, the three-piece psychedelic rock band from Texas, just announced a short tour to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of The Universe Smiles Upon You, the band’s debut album.
“To celebrate, we’re going out on the road for a short run of shows this November, at intimate venues across the U.S.,” the band wrote to fan club members on its official website.
These will be tough tickets because of the size of the venues. For example, the last time they played Minnesota, they hit Saint Paul’s Palace Theatre, which holds nearly 1,000 more guests than First Ave, where they will be playing Nov. 14. The Metro, in Chicago, has a capacity of 1,100.
I’ve heard a few fans moan about how hard it may be to land tickets, but I have a feeling these shows will be more lit than they otherwise would have been because of the way smaller rooms compress, retain and combust energy.
The 12-city, 15-show tour kicks off with a pair of gigs in Houston Nov. 5 and 6 and then hits Philadelphia, New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Minneapolis, Boulder, Colo., Missoula, Mont., Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
The band is using a ticket registration system that varies by venue to “try and ensure tickets go directly to you, The Khru,” the message, signed by Laura, Marko and DJ, continues. This registration window continues through Monday, Oct. 13. Only fan club members have access to these tickets, which suggests some tickets will be released publicly shortly thereafter.

It’s hard to believe Khruangbin has been around since 2009. It makes them feel particularly worthy to have become one of the most commercially-successful modern psych rock bands to have emerged from the U.S.
You can hear the influence they’ve had on a number of bands in recent years, such as BALTHVS and Glass Beams. For my taste, nothing beats the original.
