We got jazz, reggae and psychedelic bluegrass coming through Minnesota this week.
So Christian McBride, Ziggy Marley and Burning Spear, and Greensky Bluegrass top the weekly live music roundup here in Minnesota.
But also, there are shows worth mentioning from TWINE, Alex Rossi, Saltydog, Mark Joseph, The Milbillies, Dr. Mambo’s Combo and Shotgun Ragtime Band.
Wednesday, Oct. 8
Christian McBride, who first got onto my radar with the Philadelphia Experiment (including The Roots’ Questlove) is in the middle of four shows in two nights at the Dakota with pianist Brad Mehldau. They have shows at 7 and 9 p.m.
Don’t sleep on jamband TWINE, which keeps bringing high-energy improvisation to Bunkers every Wednesday night from 9:30 p.m. to about 1 a.m.

Thursday, Oct. 9
Ziggy Marley and Burning Spear will showcase reggae at the Mystic Showroom in Prior Lake. The 18-plus show starts at 7:30 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 10
Alex Rossi’s band plays its monthly Bunkers show this Friday. The music kicks off at 9:30 p.m., and there’s a $10 cover.
Duluth’s Saltydog makes a trip south to Nicollet County where they’ll play Patrick’s on Third in Saint Peter. They are scheduled to play at 8 p.m.
The Big Wu’s Mark Joseph performs with special guests at Frigaards in Willernie down on the southeast end of White Bear Lake. The music is free and kicks off at 7 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 11
Greensky Bluegrass returns to Palace Theatre in Saint Paul with the music starting at 7:30 p.m.
The MilBillies bring their folk music to 56 Brewing in Northeast Minneapolis. The show, which is free, runs from 7 to 10 p.m.
