The weekend my dad died this past April, I could not be with him — though I thankfully spent his last good day with him, a week before.
I happened to be down in Tennessee at Daniel Donato’s incredible Camp Cosmic two-night run at The Caverns, surrounded by great friends and inspiring musicians. Through chance or perhaps guiding forces, I was spared learning of my father’s passing on that second night and I was able to focus on taking pictures. Daniel allowed me to shoot the event for Jam in the Stream.
I’m still grieving and processing this loss.
Daniel was so kind to me that weekend.
He’s an incredibly humble human that happens to lead one of the best improvising, psychedelic rock (country-influenced) bands. He touched my heart through his music when he dedicated a song to his own father, who happened to be in attendance.
This band seemingly has a high-frequency power switch that allows it to generate improvisational energy that rumbles and soars like a locomotive aero-train.
Their show last week at Minneapolis allowed me another chance to photograph Cosmic Country — and I was once again surrounded by loving friends as we took in a great performance.
Much thanks to Daniel Donato and the amazing Ant Braaten (Cosmic Country’s photographer) for supporting my independent music operation.
