Live in MN: Kitchen Dwellers, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong and Wine Lips roll through

November 17, 2025 in live events, blog

It’s not quite as busy as last week here in Minnesota, but we got plenty of live music options including jam, jazz, jamgrass, hip-hop and psychedelic rock.

Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Wine Lips, and Kitchen Dwellers all visit this week, giving Minnesota a dose of jam, heavy psych and jamgrass.

The local options are deep as always starting with tonight’s Only Every Monday, International Reggae All Stars, TWINE, New Primitives, the Old Town Tuesday Night Jam, Ditch Pigeon, Jumbos, Alpine Shepard Boy, Emerson Island, BZ3 Organ Trio, JayBee and The Routine, Nur-D, Stringdingers, Shrimp Olympics, Them Coulee Boys, Shotgun Ragtime Band, Dr. Mambo’s Combo.

Monday, Nov. 17

Only Every Monday, the weekly show hosted by Geoffrey Fischbein, has moved to Gluek’s for show No. 741 tonight.

Tonight’s start time is 8 p.m., and kicks off with Jon Miller. Fischbein is next at 9, and Izzy Cruz has the last spot at 10 p.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 18

The International Reggae All Stars have held down the Tuesday night slot at Bunkers for a minute now. As always, the music starts at 9:30 p.m.

I made it again to the Old Town Tuesday Night Jam hosted by Graydon Peterson at Whiteys Old Town Saloon in Northeast Minneapolis last week. You never know who might show up there — last week I ran into Will Effertz, Gage Schmitt and Reed Grimm, to name a few. It’s a jazz-based jam that branches out to various genres players bring to the table. There’s no cover and last week the music, which kicked off at 10 p.m., lasted close to 2 a.m.

My friend Hayley Anne’s project Ditch Pigeon is part of a bill with Jumbos, Alpine Shepard Boy and Emerson Island at the Terminal Bar in Minneapolis that starts at 8 p.m. There’s a $5 cover.

Wednesday, Nov. 19

TWINE did not disappoint last week, to mark a year at Bunkers in North Loop. But the jams keep getting better and better each week!

TWINE killed last week in their Wednesday night spot at Bunkers, which marked the year mark of their residency. This band continues to write and add originals to their weekly show, on top of having the chops and ability to add new covers every week.  It helps that they are all fairly experienced musicians and have the amazing Brian “Snowman” Powers in the lineup.

Baltimore-based jamband Pigeons Playing Ping Pong hits Fine Line with Dizgo in support, with a 8 p.m. start.

Toronto-based psych band Wine Lips play 7th Street Entry, with Chicago noise rockers mr.phylyzzz opening at 8 p.m.

New Primitives, which also features Snowman, has their monthly git at Shaws Bar in Northeast Minneapolis. The show is scheduled from 7:15 p.m. to 10:15 p.m.

Thursday, Nov. 20

JayBee & The Routine’s weekly residency show at Bunkers starts at 9:30 p.m. There’s a $10 cover.

Friday, Nov. 21

BZ3 Organ Trio, which features organist Brian Ziemniak of Dr. Mambo’s Combo and guitarist David Feily, play the swanky Berlin jazz bar at 7:30 p.m. There’s a $20 cover.

Twin Cities hip-hop artist Nur-D hits the Dakota for a 7 p.m. show.

The Stringdingers, joined by a trio of players from the somewhat defunct Ginstrings (though the bands reunited for a few gigs recently) in Eli Bentley, Matt Blake & Gavin Haskin, play Day Block in downtown Minneapolis. The music starts at 8:30 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 22

Minneapolis psych band Shrimp Olympics is on a three-band bill with Mullet and The Anestetics at 331 Club, with music starting at 10 p.m.

The Swongos with Coop & The Kooks perform at the Cedar Lounge in Superior. The music is from 7 to 10 p.m. and there;s a $10 cover.

The Swongos opened for Los Bitchos at 7th Street Entry earlier this year. Catch them this weekend in Superior. PHOTO BY JAVIER SERNA/@jaminthestream

Sunday, Nov. 23

Kitchen Dwellers return to Fine Line, with Them Coulee Boys in support, for a 8 p.m. show.

The last time they played the Fine Line, they covered Kind Country in honor of the late Minnesota-based mandolinist Max Graham.

Shotgun Ragtime Band keeps the Grateful Dead alive every Sunday at Driftwood, with Phine & Friends starting the music out at 6:30 p.m. The music goes until about 11:30. There’s no cover.

Dr. Mambo’s Combo holds down Minnesota’s longest-standing weekly music residency (since 1987) at Bunkers every Sunday, starting at 9:30 p.m.

Head to my Minnesota Music Calendar for more information, including ticket links, for any of the aforementioned performances.
