It’s the normal kind of busy week for psychedelic music around Minnesota.
That is to say it’s busy AF.
The show I’m most excited about: Los Bitchos at 7th Street Entry Thursday. And don’t sleep on the opener, The Swongos, an instrumental surf band from the St. Croix River Valley (check out my recent interview with Swongos’ drummer Brian Liggett).
Los Bitchos is an instrumental band that will remind many of Khruangbin but with more of a Latin flavor. The band’s sound is influenced by cumbia. It’s an all-woman lineup that kicks ass all around.
Los Bitchos opened for King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard in Europe back in 2023 and I’ve loved their music ever since. Sure, it didn’t hurt that they cover “Trapdoor” — and performed the song with Stu Mackenzie on flute in Brussels (video via Filip van der Pol).
But their best stuff is their originals, and they have a couple of LPs out including their latest, Talkie, Talkie.
But the fun starts tonight.
