I’m relaunching my weekly roundup to generate more interest. While there are always lots of great live music options around the state every week, “Five Live Picks” will be my best recommendations.

Malian singer and composer Vieux Farka Touré plays the Dakota Wednesday.
Duluth’s Saltydog, coming off a couple of high-energy festival appearances, plays a pair of free shows at Up Yonder in Grand Marais Friday and Saturday.
Nick and Ren Howl are Duluth’s Between Howls. They wrap up a month of Hi-Key Mondays at Bent Paddle.

Next Sunday, Don Was and the Pan-Detroit Ensemble celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Dead’s Blues for Allah at Dakota.
Saturday, DuLilith Fest, inspired by Lilith Fair, and including female artists Cigarette Picnic, Hot Tamale Cosmos, Witchfarm and Lu Starr and Eldri Snow among others, is a free, all day event in Duluth’s Leif Erikson Park.
