MN Weekly Roundup: Umphrey's, Charlie Parr and Dead and Last Waltz tributes

Umphrey’s McGee hits First Avenue Saturday and local options include the finale of Charlie Parr’s month of Sundays at Saint Paul’s Turf Club, Dead of Winter Festival at The Hook and Ladder in South Minneapolis  and The Last Waltz tribute show at Saint Paul’s Fitzgerald Theatre, among many other great local options.

Monday, Jan. 19

Only Every Monday continues its run at Pimento Jamaican Kitchen on Eat Street in Minneapolis. The music starts at 7 p.m. and goes to 11. Alabama’s Ryan Balthrop is one of the guests this week.

Tuesday, Jan. 20

Ditch Pigeon has its monthly Terminal Bar show with Thomas Richey and Your Favorite Crybaby starting at 9 p.m. There is a sliding $5-10 cover.

The International Reggae All Stars keep their weekly Bunkers residency live starting at 9:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Jan. 21

TWINE’s Wednesday night residency at Bunkers in North Loop consistently pumps out deep jams in each of three sets starting at 9:30 p.m. There is a $10 cover.

Thursday, Jan. 22

Will Effertz and his WE Collective continue the jams at Gluek’s in downtown Minneapolis on Thursdays starting at 9:30 p.m. There’s no cover.

Jay Bee and The Routine kick off their weekly Bunkers residency at 9:30 p.m. every Thursday.

Friday, Jan. 23

UPDATE: The Hook and Ladder Theater has rescheduled its Dead of Winter Festival to support a Minnesota general strike over the illegal occupation of ICE. The new date for the event, which included The Grateful Gals, The Dead Guys, Bigfoot County and Debbie Center is Feb. 23. Minnesotans are being encouraged to strike by not working, going to school or shopping.

Green Room in Uptown hosts Daft Disko, spinning French House and disco all night, starting at 10 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 24

Mark Joseph’s Big Pink and The Belfast Cowboys perform a tribute of The Last Waltz, The Band’s famous 1976 farewell show at Saint Paul’s Fitzgerald Theatre, with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Umphrey’s McGee returns to First Avenue starting at 8 p.m. (6:30 p.m. doors).

The Here Afters kick off their Umphrey’s after party at Bunkers starts at 9:30 p.m. and goes on until about 1.

Big Head Todd and the Monsters hit the Palace Theatre in Saint Paul starting at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, Jan. 25

Charlie Parr’s Turf Club residency wraps up with Tony Polecastro and doors opening at 7 p.m. Some folks head to the basement Clown Lounge early to get the first jump on the GA venue. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Shotgun Ragtime Band and Phine and Friends kick off the music at 6:30 p.m. at the Driftwood in South Minneapolis.

Dr. Mambo’s Combo continues the longest-standing weekly residency in the state at Bunkers in North Loop starting at 9:30 p.m.
