WEEKLY ROUNDUP: Saltydog kicks off a month of Thursdays in Minneapolis

March 02, 2026 in weekly roundup, blog

Duluth jamband Saltydog returns to Minneapolis for a month of Thursdays at The Hook and Ladder Theater this week, funking up the mid week in Minneapolis.

Minnesota talent carries the week, but we have Detroit hip hop legends Slum Village and singer-songwriter Jason Isabel incoming, too.

Read on below for the details on performances including Jumpsuit, the Old Town Tuesday Night Jam, Bruce Woodman, Hunny Bear, Wise Jennings, WE Collective, Alex Rossi, Confucisaurus, Ditch Pigeon, Mikel Wright & The Wrongs, Dead Days of Winter: Country is Dead, Willows, Afflatus, Obi Original with The Black Atlantics, Shotgun Ragtime Band and last but not least Dr. Mambo’s Combo.

Monday, March 2

Duluth seven-piece funk band Jumpsuit plays the first of five Mondays in March at Bent Paddle in Duluth. The band includes Calvin “Calzone” Lund of Saltydog on bass, Ian Hopp on drums, Manny Eisele and Marshall Dillon on guitars, Courtney Elian on keys and backup vocals, and Ricky Francois and Madi Phyle on lead vocals. The music is free and runs from 6 to 9 p.m.

Tuesday, March 3

The Old Town Tuesday Night Jam at Whiteys Old Town Saloon in Northeast Minneapolis runs from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. or later. It’s an open, jazz forward jam that brings in a lot of talented musicians every week. There’s no cover.

Bruce Woodman’s open jam at Carmody Irish Pub in Duluth is schedule for 8 to 11 p.m., but it often goes later than that, sometimes finding it peak at 1 a.m. or later.

Wednesday, March 4

Detroit hip hop legends Slum Village perform at the Dakota Wednesday, with the show starting at 7 p.m. Currently the group consists of original member T3 and Young RJ. The outfit originally formed with legendary producer J Dilla and Baatin, both of who have died.

Minneapolis jazz fusion group Hunny Bear has its White Squirrel residency and is joined by Mockturnal and Knife Emoji out in Saint Paul.

There’s no cover for the music which runs from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Thursday, March 5

Duluth’s Saltydog has the first of four residency shows in March at The Hook and Ladder Theater mailroom.

You can save money by purchasing a monthly pass for $40, which will get you into all of the shows at a discount.

Expect members of Saltydog to sit in with TWINE, their brothers in jam, and vice versa, at various points this month, but there is an opening set from guest band every week, with Wise Jennings, a power duo from Wisconsin with an outlaw bent, kicking things off this Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Singer-songwriter Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit hit the Armory with doors at 6:30 p.m. and show at 8 p.m.

WE Collective plays at Gluek’s in downtown Minneapolis every Thursday starting at about 9:30 p.m., with a rotating cast of musicians around Will Effertz.

Friday, March 6

Alex Rossi returns to Bunkers in North Loop, with music starting at the 9:30 p.m.

Minneapolis jam funk band Confucisaurus are on a bill Fumbler and Ditch Pigeon at Eagles 34 in South Minneapolis, with the music starting at 8 p.m.
