This could be considered a lighter week for type of live, psychedelic music I try to highlight here in Minnesota, at least compared to the last few months.
But there are still some excellent options.
TUESDAY
Over at Palmer’s Bar in Cedar-Riverside, the Zen Open Jam hosted by Ruby Blu (Red Eye Ruby), Caley Factorial (Color Chord) and Bryce Tuitt (Confucisaurus and Color Chord) have Confucisaurus/Color Chord’s keyboardist Jeremy Rose as their featured artist.
And it is “open” meaning all are welcome to join in. The jam runs from 8 to 11 p.m.
WEDNESDAY
Of course, there’s the TWINE Wednesday Bunkers residency, which is coming off last week’s special guests drummer Eddie Christmas of the New Orleans Suspects and keyboardist John Reinhart of the Jon Sullivan Band.
Eddie Christmas, of the New Orleans Suspects, with TWINE last week. Christmas lit up the town all week, and will be back with his main band for Halloween. He’ll also probably stoke some of the other projects he worked with this past week, including his collaboration with drummer JT Bates, Rhythm Nation. PHOTO BY JAVIER SERNA/@jaminthestream
As always, the show starts late (9:30 p.m.) and ends late (12:30-1 a.m.).
In Northeast Minneapolis, Duluth’s Teague Alexy and Jacob Mahon of Saltydog also have a 9:30 p.m. gig.
In Duluth, LazyLightning.420, the Grateful Dead cover band featuring Erik Berry of Trampled by Turtles and Marc Hartman have an engagement at Jade Fountain.
THURSDAY
Dead Larry is headlining a Turf Club gig that also includes Socktopus, Sam Licari and the Sweet Tease, and ska band Lost Island Society. The music should start at 8 p.m.
FRIDAY
It’s a busy night, starting with the first Wild Nights at the Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley. This installment includes Nur-D, Smells Like Nirvana, Lighter Co and Daphne Jean, with multiple stages going.
Alex Rossi, who I mentioned earlier this week in a story about keyboardist Kevin Gastonguay, has its monthly gig with the normal 9:30 p.m. Bunkers’ start time.

Jimbo’s Forever Young, led by Jim Hinkley is playing the “Gemini Jam,” covering songs entirely be Gemini’s, including the likes of Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, Joe Cocker, Prince, Levon Helm, Paul McCartney, and Waylon Jennings, among others. The lineup for this show out at Tuttle’s in Hopkins includes Annie Frazier, Daryn Christenson, GR Svenddal and Ryan Stainiger. One did not have to be a Gemini to play in the jam.
Last but not least, Jon Sullivan Band has a 6 p.m. show at Day Block Brewing in downtown Minneapolis.
SATURDAY
Mae Simpson’s show Under the Canopy at The Hook and Ladder includes a bill with Feed the Dog and the Rebel Queens, with music starting at 7 p.m.
Over at Icehouse, the International Reggae All Stars, Thursday-night Bunkers mainstays, join Innocent for a 6:30 p.m. start time.
Geoffrey Fischbein’s Only Every Saturday daytime/lakeside gig at Pimento on the Lake (Bde Maka Ska) is appearing to have another solid lineup this week, with mandolinist Gavin Haskin, cellist Olivia Q, and a duo of guitarist Jason Fladager and bassist Jimmy Rogers, along with Fisch.
As always, find more shows and information, including ticket links, at my Minnesota Music Calendar, which is updated weekly.
