Duluth Homegrown Festival underway
Life has been getting in the way of my efforts here lately, but I wanted to get the word out about some of the music happening in Minnesota this weekend.
Charlie Parr performs tonight at First Presbyterian Church in Saint Cloud show. The 7 p.m. show is put on by the Granite City Folk Society.
Up in Duluth, Homegrown Music Festival is underway, and Saltydog has an 8 p.m. gig at Sacred Heart Music Center in Duluth. A Homegrown wristband is required for that show, but not all shows require a wristband.
I’ll mention Campfire Tranarchists and their 8:15 p.m. at Owls Club in Duluth. That show is free, as is Tin Can Gin’s 10:30 p.m. gig at Dubs Linn Irish Pub in downtown Duluth.
Teague Alexy & The Common Thread play at Blacklist Brewing in downtown Duluth at 11:45 p.m. That show requires a wristband.
For the complete list of Duluth Homegrown shows, head to my calendar here.
SATURDAY
TWINE guitarist Jon Miller has a free solo gig at Pimento on the Lake in Minneapolis from 5 to 6 p.m.
Up in Duluth, I’ll mention Jon Edwards has a free gig at Sir Benedict’s Tavern on the Lake at 9 p.m.
Flip Arkulary has a wristband show at R.T. Quinlan’s Saloon at 10:15 p.m.
SUNDAY
The final installment of Dream of the Wild’s Psychedelic Sundays is being held at Zhora Darling with Hunny Bear, Poison Ivy and The People and Confucisaurus.
Hunny Bear is a funk and jazz fusion quartet based in Minneapolis.
Poison Ivy and The People list their sound as “existential, dreamy, theatrical grunge pop rock.”
Last but not least is Confucisaurus, the Minneapolis funk/jam band that recently put out the EP “Fight the Batman 4U,” which I reviewed here.
Don’t miss this Sunday’s show. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the show is at 6:30 p.m.
Over at the Granada Theater in Uptown, Vic Volare and the Soul Stars, including The Big Wu’s Mark Joseph, Nicholas David, Kendra Glenn and Connor McRae Hammergren perform from 6 to 9 p.m.
TUESDAY
Psychedelic country star Sturgill Simpson has a pair of shows at the Armory Tuesday and Wednesday next week.
Simpson fans seeking post-show jams should head over to Gluek’s Tuesday or Bunker’s Wednesday for TWINE. Next Wednesday also happens to be the birthday of TWINE saxman Brian “Snowman” Powers.
