Jon Miller of Feed the Dog Thursday night at Blue Ox Music Festival in Eau Claire, Wis. Feed the Dog played the Saloon stage and were visited late in the set by Andy Thorn of Leftover Salmon, who sat in for a song on banjo.

Album Review: SaltyDog's second LP Pepper delivers song-writing goods

Duluth’s SaltyDog released Pepper on June 3. Jam in the Stream reviews the band’s second LP, which features solid song writing, lyrically, as the band has grown to include a pair of guitarists, a hand percussionist and a keyboardist, the latest addition to the band, Jam in the Stream’s verdict: Go buy this album, which includes songs such as “Barfly,” “Yeehaw,” and “Farmer Norm,” among others.

The Big Wu play The Hook and Ladder Theater Saturday, one of several live music shows highlighted this week. The Black Pumas are playing Surly Brewing Festival Field on Friday, and there are lots of local band options all week. Jam in the Stream’s calendar link is now live and being updated. It includes shows of note mostly inside Minnesota’s border, with a few exceptions. The bands included cross several genres, but psychedelic and improvisational music of many stripes is a common theme.
